Bronson
Bronson is a mile off County Highway D-25 to the northeast. Bronson’s motto is
“A Small Town That Is A Large Community.” The town's population was 269 at
the time of the last census. Despite its minuscule size, Bronson has an
elementary school. The middle school and high school are in Lawton, five miles
to the north.
The town also has a small business district, which includes JR’s Bar & Grill
and the Bronson General Store on Pine Street, a block east of K-42.
The town celebrated its centennial in 2002, although it wasn’t incorporated until
1967. The settlement initially was called Elliot Creek, after the stream that runs
south of town, which in turn was named for the first family to settle here. The
community was renamed Bronson sometime after the turn of the century,
possibly in memory of a young man with that last name who was killed when he
was kicked by a horse.
