This replica of an earth lodge used by Native Americans in the Glenwood area was built in 1991 across from Glenwood Lake Park. It was deemed unsafe for tours in 2005 and destroyed by fire in a ceremony during the town's Keg Creek Day celebration on August 28, 2005.

Glenwood
Glenwood, pop. 5,358, is the county seat of Mills County. The county is
named after Frederick Mills, an Iowan who died in the Mexican-American
War in 1847. It was known as Coonsville until 1853, when the name was
changed to Glenwood.
Of course, American Indians lived in the Glenwood area long before
settlers of European descent arrived here. Paleo-Indians of the Big Game
Hunting Tradition lived in the region from about 12,000-6,000 B.C.
Glenwood gives its name to the Glenwood Culture of Native Americans,
who lived in earth lodges in the Loess Hills like the one at left 700-900
years ago.
A walker enjoys the trail around Glenwood Lake. This is one of Iowa's
best small-town city parks. Amenities include a modern amphitheater
and the Mills County Historical Museum.
