Magnolia
During its brief glory days in the 1850s, Magnolia had the first post office
and the first store in the county. The population reached a high point of
500 before the county seat moved to Logan in 1876. Only about 200
people call Magnolia home today.
A suggestion of past prosperity can be found on the main street, where
there are a couple of old brick buildings. One houses the Country Inn and
the other is home to the Magnolia Fire & Rescue Association. In the
middle of the street is an old water pump and a flagpole.
The city park is located along 3rd Street. The replica log cabin in the park
was built in 1926 as a memorial to the county's early settlers. It is open by
appointment by calling 712-648-2333.
