Sidney
Each year, the Sidney Rodeo attracts nearly 40,000 spectators to a town of just
1,300 people. "Iowa's oldest continuous outdoor rodeo" will celebrate its 83rd year
in 2006 with pageantry and thrilling competition.

There's a carnival atmosphere each year at the Sidney Rodeo, in part because there's an actual carnival on the grounds.

Sidney is also the county
seat of Fremont County.
The current courthouse,
built in 1889, is the fourth to
serve the county. The
previous courthouse was
badly damaged during the
Civil War when someone
tried to blow it up with
dynamite. In 1888, the
building was destroyed by
an arsonist.
Across from the courthouse
to the east is the Fremont
County Historical Museum.
Mastodon tusks, dinosaur
bones, and Loess Hills
fossils are among the items
on display here. The museum is open Sundays from 1-4 p.m. and also on rodeo
days and during the Memorial Day weekend. One of the museum exhibits is the
original back bar from Penn Drug, dating to 1863. Penn Drug is across the street
from the courthouse to the west. Like Stoner Drug in Hamburg, it has an
old-fashioned soda fountain.
